FIREFIGHTERS were called out to a tractor and rubbish fire on the outskirts of Chester.
Shortly after 1pm firefighters were called to a report of a farmer's tractor being on fire in Lodge Lane, Saughall.
On arrival at the farm crews found the small tractor well alight.
It was surrounded by areas of controlled burning.
A water shuttle was set up to get enough water to the scene.
A cordon was also put in place.
Firefighters used two hose reel jets to extinguish the tractor fire and then damped it down to make it safe.
Firefighters are currently tackling the seats of fire surrounding the tractor.
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said that it was decided that the controlled fires involving quantities of rubbish needed to be extinguished due to strong winds.
Firefighters are utilising a water bowser from the farm to fight the fires.
At shortly after 5pm a spokesman for the fire service said good progress had been made to tackle the blaze and that one crew remained damping down the area.
The farmer is using a different tractor to help firefighters extinguish the fires, by pulling out and turning over the rubbish.
