SUMMER made a welcome reappearance for this year's Chester Pride parade as thousands lined the city centre streets to support the LGBTQ+ community.

With sunny skies providing a perfect backdrop for the celebratory occasion, the only showers to be seen were those involving petals, bubbles and glitter.

In what is the 10th anniversary of Chester Pride this year, hundreds of people representing dozens of community groups set off from Castle Square – once again the main base for this year's event – and headed through the city to be greeted by cheering crowds.

After returning to Castle Square, a feast of musical entertainment and LGBTQ+ friendly events are taking place throughout the afternoon.

This year's headline acts are boy band A1 and Pop Idol star Gareth Gates, while tribute acts Making It Madonna, True Colours – Cyndi Lauper and Luke Hingley as Michael Buble are also expected to thrill thousands.

Also taking to the Main Stage will by The Proud Marys, Night, Lee Anthony, Miss Penny, Trixie Lee and Sami Brookes. British Sign Language assistance will be available from interpreter Sean.

Other entertainment will come from the Glitter Lounge (suitable for over 18s only) and The Runway Drag Tent, while there is something for all ages at Youth Pride (no ticket required), which includes family entertainment and a fun fair, and an Older Persons Zone.

Food and drink stalls, as well as an alcohol-free chillout zone are also available.

The main event has moved to a ticketed system, in the background of rising costs, to help sustain the festival for future years. Tickets on the day are priced £10, and the event runs until 7.30pm.
