Four fire crews spent three hours tackling a blaze in two empty buildings in the city on Friday night (April 12).

Residents in the Wrexham Road area were warned to keep their windows and doors closed while two crews from Chester, one from Ellesmere Port, and one from Powey Lane tackled the blaze in the two disused buildings.

The crews were called out early in the evening, with operations ending at 8.29pm. The crews spent three hours and 10 minutes at the scene, although damping down was expected to continue "through the night".

In a statement posted to its incident log, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze involved two disused buildings in Chester.

Two main water jets were trained on the buildings, and nearby residents were urged to keep windows and doors closed.

"Crews continued to damp down and turn over debris, taking readings with a thermal imaging camera," the crew said.

"Once everything was out and there were no hotspots of fire the incident was handed over. They had been at the scene for approximately three hours and ten minutes."
