MOLD SECONDS Gareth Davies became the first bowler for more than 20 years in North Wales to take all 10 wickets in an innings.

The 19-year-old’s stunning figures of 10-11 off 12 overs, including seven maidens, helped Mold to an eight-wicket success over Buckley seconds in Division Four.

It was an outstanding effort from Davies, a product of Mold’s youth system, who had four batsmen out bowled, three caught behind, a catch at mid-off and two lbws during his amazing spell.

To round off proceedings he took the tenth wicket with his final permitted delivery as he trapped Louis Parry lbw for six.

Jonathan Smith offered the only major resistance for Buckley with 33, before Adrian Forster (34 not out) and Craig Roberts (unbeaten 14) saw Mold home.

Davies becomes the first bowler to take a 10-wicket haul in the North Wales League since Paul Jones took 10-45 for Anglesey Aluminium against Bethesda seconds back in July 1994.

“He got an early wicket but no one could’ve predicted what was to come,” Mold’s Dave Wiseman said.

“It was a brilliant performance, I can’t remember anyone producing figures like that before.

“He’s a young lad and a great prospect. He’s a good seamer and he’s only going to improve but he’s got some good pace.”

Elsewhere in Division Four, Shotton Steel’s Chris Boden struck 48 not out but his side were bowled out for 102 and slipped to a six wicket loss to Maeshafn.

In the Premier Division, Connah’s Quay’s Martin Burger was the difference between the two sides as they defeated Hawarden Park by seven wickets.

Burger took 2-36 off his 12 overs before smashing an unbeaten 82 including two sixes as Quay maintained their 100 per cent start to the campaign.

Park captain Tom Norris won the toss and elected to bat, with Dilruk Yahathugoda hitting 76 in their total of 214 all out. Nathan Pearson (23) and overseas professional Sam Underhill (22) contributed with David Fox claiming 3-36 for the visitors.

Despite the challenging target, Quay eased to victory in just 41.5 overs as Luke Bennett struck 52 and Darren Jones added 37 not out, with Burger’s knock doing the damage.

Craig Wilson (2-34) and Tom Ducker (1-62) were the only wicket takers out of Park’s eight bowlers used.

In Division Two, Gresford seconds secured a 65-run success over Ruthin. Gresford amassed 249-9 off their 45 overs, Craig Morse hitting 60 and David Baker adding 40.

Harry Pooler claimed 3-52 for Ruthin, before Ieuan Lewis’ 54 gave them hope of chasing down the runs. However, Sam Thompson produced a terrific spell of 6-27 off nine overs to bowl out the visitors.

Hawarden Park seconds recorded a comfortable five wicket win over Pontblyddyn seconds.

Park skipper Adam Cross claimed 4-47 as Pont were dismissed for 154, Gethin Thomas (54) and Lewis Davies (38) supplying some important runs.

In reply, David Hughes struck an unbeaten 52 off 65 balls and found support from Jo Forde who hammered 39 in just 19 balls as Park recovered from 91-5.

James Hughes (2-40) and Daniel Shaw (2-38) were in the wickets for Pont.

Connah’s Quay seconds saw off Gwersyllt Park by seven wickets in Division Three, chasing down 108 for victory.

Luke Gardner’s unbeaten 70 went unrewarded as Llangollen lost by 86 runs at Denbigh seconds. Mynydd Isa were handed the points after Bala conceded their game.
