CHESTER suffered a bad day at the office as they threw away a one-goal to lose 2-1 at home to play-off contenders Gateshead.

Here's how the Blues' players rated as they slumped to a sixth defeat in eight matches.

LIAM ROBERTS: Will be desperately disappointed to have allowed Johnson’s shot to squrim underneath him and generally looked short of confidence. 4

SAM HUGHES: Back in the line-up and produced a decent display at right-back, but it’s clear it isn’t his best position. 6

RYAN ASTLES: Turned inside-out by Danny Johnson for the equaliser and in general wasn’t his normal commanding self. 5

BLAINE HUDSON: Chester’s best defender, read the ball well in the air and doubled his goal tally for the season when he blasted home. 7

THEO VASSELL: Looked really lively having been switched to left-back so it was a huge shame he went off after half an hour through injury. 6

WADE JOYCE: Another decent showing from Joyce, although the game did begin to pass the midfielder by slightly in the second period. 6

LUKE GEORGE: Wasn’t able to dictate matters as well as he did last week at Dagenham, and found the going tough up against Mafuta. 6

TOM SHAW: Should’ve converted a great chance with the scores level at 0-0. The most effective midfielder for the Blues. 6

EVAN HORWOOD: Had a poor game. Was superb at Dagenham last week but nothing came off for him going forward and constantly caught out by Gateshead’s wingers. 4

ELLIOTT DURRELL: Full of endeavour and running and created some good opportunities in the first-half but his impact faded. 6

JAMES ALABI: Yet again he led the line with pace and strength, although cut an isolated figure without support from Richards or Chapell. 7

SUBSTITUTES

RYAN LLOYD: Ask to do a number of jobs after being introduced for the injured Vassell, and performed well on the left of the diamond. 6

KANE RICHARDS: Unable to make much impact and struck a late shot into the side-netting. 5
