A MAN from the Chester area has sadly died following a collision involving a car and a HGV.
The incident occurred on the A56 Chester Road in Dunham-on-the-Hill, near Helsby, on Saturday afternoon (May 29).
The collision involved a red Vauxhall car and a white Volvo HGV with a red trailer.
Sadly, the driver of the car – believed to be a 49-year-old man from the Chester area – was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cheshire Police said his family have been informed and formal identification will take place in due course.
In a statement, the force said: "At around 2.50pm on Saturday 29 May police received a report of a collision. Officers swiftly attended the scene.
"On arrival they discovered that the collision involved a red Vauxhall car and a white Volvo heavy goods vehicle with a red trailer.
"Paramedics also attended and the road was closed whilst emergency services worked at the scene.
"Sadly, the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.
"He is believed to be a 49-year-old man from the Chester area.
"His family have been informed and formally identification will take place in due course.
"The driver of the HGV is not believed to have been injured as a result of the collision.
"Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing.
