THE son of Tranmere Rovers legend Jason Koumas scored his debut goal for Liverpool last night (Wednesday, February 28) when he netted for the Reds in their 3-0 FA Cup victory over Southampton.
18-year-old Lewis Koumas became the latest Liverpool youngster to catch the eye after opening the scoring for his side against the Saints in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Chester-born Lewis joined the Liverpool academy as an 11-year old in November 2016, having spent three years with the academy of Tranmere Rovers. He signed his first professional contract with Liverpool in January 2023.
He plays for Wales internationally at youth level, following in the footsteps of his Welsh-international father who won 34 caps for his country.
Jason made his professional debut for Tranmere Rovers in the 1998–99 season. A series of impressive performances over the next four years won him many plaudits, including a place in the PFA Division Two team of the year for 2001–02 and he established himself as a talented youngster with immense potential. He scored one of Tranmere's goals when they knocked out Merseyside rivals Everton in the 2000–01 FA Cup in a memorable 3–0 victory at Goodison Park.
In August 2002, Jason's potential was spotted by then West Bromwich Albion manager, Gary Megson, who paid Rovers a fee of £2.25m to secure his services.
After spells at West Brom, Cardiff and Wigan, Jason made a shock return to Prenton Park in 2013 before announcing his retirement in 2015.
In total, Jason made 178 league appearances for Tranmere, scoring 29 goals.
There was another connection to Tranmere Rovers with the other goal scorer on the night being Jayden Danns who is the son of current Tranmere assistant manager Neil Danns.
