Cheshire were left frustrated by Wales Minor Counties as their latest three-day Unicorns Championship match ended in a draw.
Cheshire made full use of a good wicket at Abergavenny CC to pile on 415 for seven declared as Furqan Shafiq hit a maiden century with 108 off just 107 balls, skipper Danny Leach added 65 while Rick Moore (38) and Will Evans (73no) were also in the runs as Wales toiled in the field.
Ben Aitchison’s 4-34 off 20 overs then helped dismiss struggling Wales for just 160, Wayne White collecting 3-40, as only Cameron Herring’s 153-ball vigil for 90 enabled the hosts to post anything like a respectable total, having at one stage slumped to 32 for seven.
Cheshire blasted their way to 243 for six declared on day two, Calum Rowe’s 98 the highlight with Moore adding 47, leaving Cheshire with four sessions to dismiss Wales.
However, they were left bitterly frustrating as Mojeid Ilyas stuck an unbeaten 116 off a mammoth 332 balls, while Simon Pearce also made 98, as Wales clung on on 331 for eight off 123 overs.
Simon Normanton took 3-109, White claimed 2-64 and Moore collected 2-68.
Skipper Leach said: “It was frustrating, disappointing but we had some good application and decent individual performances.
“We’ve got to look forward to our first three-day home game now against Dorset at Nantwich on July 22-24.”
