Bernard Morley and Anthony Johnson have begun their rebuild of Chester's squad with the signing of Matty Hughes from Chorley on a one-year deal.
The 25-year-old forward returns to the Deva after two loan spells with the club during the 2014/15 campaign where he made 26 appearances and scored four times.
He was released by Fleetwood Town in 2015, joining AFC Fylde on a two-year deal and joined Chorley in 2017. He was set for another season with Matt Jansen's outfit but has been persuaded to head to Chester.
Hughes tweeted last night: "Absolutely made up to be back at @ChesterFC can’t wait to get going! Overwhelmed with messages of support from everyone thank you it means a lot! Get behind the boys and managers as you always have done and we’ll be back to where we belong."
In addition to signing Hughes, Morley and Johnson have also secured one-year deals for two first-team players.
Experienced midfielder Gary Roberts has agreed to stay with the club for another 12 months, while academy graduate Nathan Brown will also be staying with the Blues in National League North.
Roberts posted: "Delighted to stay at my hometown club @ChesterFC for another season, let's get the fans back down, back the lads and new managers."
