AN Ellesmere Port community cinema has a new name.

Based in the New Creation Centre, Station Road, Ellesmere Port, the NCC Community Cinema will now be known as The Port Cinema.

Alongside of this, the cinema is proud to announce that it is now operating as a registered CIC – Community Interest Company.

Having only opened its doors in September it has been an exciting time for everyone involved in working to establish the cinema and its reputation into the community.

The cinema is also proving to be a special place for a welcoming, friendly social gathering.

A spokesperson for The Port Cinema said: "We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported us and especially to thank all who have come along to enjoy the monthly movie nights.

"Recently the cinema was also delighted to host a special showing of the locally filmed sitcom ‘Morbid’. There was a great turnout for the event and the night itself featured a fantastic Q&A session with the cast and crew members.

"We look forward to announcing more special one-off events throughout our programme."

The next movie night on Friday, January 25 features the Academy Award-winning Chariots of Fire and, like Morbid, the film has many scenes that were shot locally and stars thousands of locals in the crowd scenes filmed at The Bebington Oval in the 1980s.

It’s not only a great chance to see the film on the big screen again but possibly for audience members to spot themselves and remember a time when Hollywood came to town!

Alongside the monthly film nights, the cinema plays host to the popular ‘Messy Mischief Makers Family Movie Afternoon’, a free monthly family Saturday movie show run by the tireless work of this local company of ladies.

The next family movie afternoon is on Saturday, February 2.

The cinema is free entry and there are free refreshments provided with the support of The Port Grocery.
