IT was a very different Remembrance Sunday held in Chester due to coronavirus restrictions, but services held to honour those who fought and lost their lives still took place.

At Chester Cathedral, a service was broadcast on Sunday at 10am via its YouTube account, but sadly there was no congregation present due to England's coronavirus lockdown.

That had meant a planned private ticketed service for 3.30pm was cancelled, along with Chester Cathedral’s Communion Service at 10am.

However, veterans and dignitaries were still able to lay wreaths at the Cathedral Gardens.

The included the Lord Mayor of Chester, Cllr Mark Williams, and His Grace the Duke of Westminster.

Chester Cathedral also invited people to write messages of remembrance or a prayer on its Prayer Wall: https://chestercathedral.com/prayer-wall/

Residents also paid their respects at the two-minute silence, with some coming out onto their doorsteps on Sunday at 11am to do so, while also placing a poppy in a front window.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service also marked Remembrance Sunday at its fire stations across the county, while police in Chester also placed wreaths at war memorial sites.
