BOMB disposal experts have carried out a controlled explosion at an Ellesmere Port secondary school following the discovery of a hazardous substance.
Police were called to Ellesmere Port Church of England College on Whitby Road yesterday afternoon (January 5).
The substance was not considered suspicious but as a precautionary measure it was decided by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal to carry out a controlled explosion on the school field this morning.
Officers assisted the unit with the safe disposal of the chemical.
A Cheshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "Shortly after 4pm on Tuesday, January 5 officers from Cheshire Police received reports that a hazardous substance had been found at an education facility in Ellesmere Port.
"The substance was not suspicious, but as a precautionary measure a decision was taken by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) to conduct a controlled explosion.
"The explosion was managed by the EOD and took place shortly after 9am on Wednesday, January 6."
Cheshire Constbulary's Grange Police - Ellesmere Port social media account posted: "Been assisting the Bomb Disposal Unit at Ellesmere Port C of E College this morning with the safe disposal of a chemical.
"Mr Loon was allowed the honour of pressing the button."
