PLANS to open a new Japanese tapas-style venue at the former Chimichanga restaurant site in Chester city centre have taken one step further with the submission of a premises licence to Cheshire West and Chester Council.

It is proposed for the planned restaurant, called Izakayu, on Pepper Street to grant the sale of alcohol on and off the premises between Monday-Saturday, 10am-midnight, and Sundays 10am-11pm.

The premise licence application also seeks the granting of Late Night Refreshment, Monday to Saturday, 11pm-midnight.

Izakayu comes from the word Izakaya, an informal Japanese bar which serves alcoholic drinks and shared-plate snacks.

Chimichanga was part of a row of Pepper Street bars and restaurants, along with Las Iguanas, Opera Grill and Coast to Coast (later Firejacks). However, currently only Opera Grill is still active.

Comments on the application can be made in writing to The Licensing Team, Cheshire West and Chester Council, 4 Civic Way, Ellesmere Port, CH65 0BE, no later than March 1, 28 consecutive days from the day after the application was given the Licensing Authority.
