THE ten council wards with the highest Covid-19 infection rates are no longer dominated by the Ellesmere Port area, according to the latest figures.

The data, available on Cheshire West and Chester Council's dedicated coronavirus information portal, shows that the most spots in the top ten are now taken up by wards in the Winsford area.

For the second week running, there are no Chester wards currently in the top ten with Blacon being the highest in 13th.

The most up-to-date figures cover the seven-day period from January 28 to February 3.

During the previous week-long stretch (January 21-27), Ellesmere Port had seven council wards in the top ten, but that has now dropped to four.

The infection rate for the whole of the Cheshire West and Chester area continues to steadily declined and now stands at 223.3 per 100,000 people.

The rate had peaked at 625.5 during the week-long period of December 29 to January 4.

Here are the ten Cheshire West and Chester Council wards with the highest Covid-19 infection rates per 100,000 people:

Winsford Dene (24 cases, 544.34 infection rate)

Central & Grange (57 cases, 518.37 infection rate)

Shakerley (22 cases, 437.55 infection rate)

Winsford Wharton (23 cases, 413.37 infection rate)

Winsford Swanlow (18 cases, 364.23 infection rate)

Winsford Over & Verdin (52 cases, 363.87 infection rate)

Wolverham (19 cases, 343.27 infection rate)

Winsford Gravel (14 cases, 342.30 infection rate)

Whitby Groves (13 cases, 309.60 infection rate)

Whitby Park (15 cases, 298.92 infection rate)

Blacon remains the Chester ward with the highest infection rate with 270.15, but that figure has fallen from 343.17 last week.

Upton (17th) is the only other council ward in Chester which makes the top 20, with an infection rate of 236.77.

The following wards are among the top ten with the lowest infection rates in the borough: Saughall & Mollington (58.45), Tarporley (62.01), Parkgate (101.90), Great Boughton (104.19), Little Neston (106.84), Farndon (110.79), and Tarvin & Kelsall (112.06).

Elsewhere, Helsby has an infection rate of 159.87 while Frodsham stands at 226.03.
