IT is Cheshire Day 2021 — and many of the county’s representatives have taken to social media to celebrate the very best of our area.

Cheshire Day is being touted by councils, businesses, and public sector organisations as an opportunity to promote what the county has to offer — both now and once covid-19 restrictions relax.

March 30 was chosen ‘since it was on this date in 1300 that the earliest surviving full text of the Cheshire magna carta was issued’, Cheshire East Council leader Sam Corcoran said.

He made his comments on Twitter this morning, and went on to encourage users to share what they love about Cheshire on social media using the hashtag #CheshireDay.

Knutsford councillor Quentin Abel added: “I love the way that people are open minded and are prepared to have a go and get things sorted.”

However, it wasn’t just in Cheshire East where civic pride was on show.

In the next the borough, Cheshire West councillor Simon Eardley also took to Twitter — to share some images of the county flower, the Cuckooflower.

Cllr Louise Gittins, leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “I’m incredibly proud of Cheshire, it’s a wonderful place to live and work. It’s right to celebrate our fantastic home today.”

This year’s celebration is the first time that Cheshire has had its own dedicated celebratory day — and follows the lead of fellow northern counties Lancashire and Yorkshire.
