BRAND new pay and display machines which provide a card payment option are being installed in Ellesmere Port town centre car parks.
The new ticket machines are already in operation in the main council-owned Asda car park and others will soon follow suit.
Unlike the old pay and display machines, the modern replacements require motorists to enter their vehicle registration number and also provide the option of paying with a card.
A Cheshire West and Chester Council spokesperson said: “The existing town centre car park machines have been replaced with modern pay and display machines that will be able to take card payments.
"These machines were replaced first as they are amongst the oldest and in need of replacement.
"The new machines require the user to enter their vehicle registration number and additional notices have been put up to advise this.
"The new payment machines will be installed across the car parks in Ellesmere Port to replace the existing old machines."
The parking charges remain the same.
