HOTEL chain Travelodge has identified two locations it would like to set up more hotels in Cheshire West and Chester.

The budget hotel chain, which currently has sites in Cheshire Oaks, Bridge Street, Chester and Chester Central – opposite the Amphitheatre – has unveiled a list of potential new locations where it could develop further hotels.

It comes as the hospitality scene is seeking to bounce back from the challenges caused by the Covid pandemic.

Chester and District Standard:

Under a section on its website, listed 'New Travelodge Development Opportunities', UK development director Tony O'Brien said: "We are currently seeking development opportunities that could incorporate a new Travelodge hotel, either on its own or as part of a mixed-use scheme, and will consider new developments and conversions of existing buildings and hotels operated by other brands.

"In 2021, we opened 17 new hotels, in locations including Bristol, Kendal, Leicester, London, Mansfield, Poole, Rochdale, Sandwich, St Albans and Witney and are looking to open a similar number each year."

On its radar for potential development sites are one in Ellesmere Port, just off junction 8 of the M53 motorway, and Chester Business Park, not far from the Posthouse Roundabout.

Chester is the subject of several hotel developments.

The Hotel opened in Newgate Street and Leonardo in Pepper Street last year.

Work is under way on building a £5 million boutique hotel by the Wildes Hotel Group in Bridge Street.

Plans have been unveiled to build a new 162-bedroom hotel on Frodsham Street, while there are also plans to bring Eaton Hotel on City Road back to life and a bid to convert a derelict church in Handbridge to an aparthotel.
