A DRUG-DRIVER who pulled up at a Chester McDonald's drive-through was caught by police who happened to be in the fast-food restaurant at the time.
Alex Bedford, 23, of no fixed abode but previously of Windsor Park, Carmel, Flintshire, pleaded guilty to drug-driving when he appeared at Chester Magistrates Court on Tuesday, March 15.
Prosecuting, Jonathan Wilkinson said it was on October 17, 2021 when staff at McDonald's suspected Bedford, who arrived in a Ford Fiesta, might have been under the influence.
Police officers happened to be in the McDonald's restaurant on the Greyhound Retail Park at the time and spoke to Bedford and took a drug swipe, which Bedford tested positive for benzoylecgonine, a derivative of cocaine.
Bedford had no previous convictions.
Defending, Michael Gray said Bedford had accepted the offence and pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity, and knew that he would be taken off the road as a result.
Magistrates imposed a 20-month driving ban, with Bedford fined £120 plus £85 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.
