A Chester village has been named as one of the best places to live in the country.
Christleton, which is situated mere miles from the centre of Chester, has featured alongside six other North West locations as one of the most desirable neighbourhoods anywhere in the UK.
The Sunday Times Best Places to Live 2022 selected the North West's regional winner as Trawden in Lancashire.
The five accompanying locations (which were not ranked) included Christleton and Altrincham, both of course in Cheshire. There was also Kirkby Lonsdale in Cumbria, Prestwich in Greater Manchester and West Kirby in Merseyside.
Expert judges assessed a wide range of factors, from schools, transport and broadband to culture, green spaces and health of the high street. The sponsor of the guide, Halifax, also provided an average house price.
The Sunday Times said of Christleton: "This picture-perfect spot offers an aspirational version of traditional village life just a few miles from the centre of Chester.
"It’s beautiful, much loved by its residents, has excellent schools right on the doorstep and a shop, café and excellent pubs."
Its average house price was listed as £489,000 making it the second most expensive in the group, behind Altrincham (£531,000).
Helen Davies, The Times and Sunday Times Property Editor, said: "The Sunday Times Best Places to Live list is necessarily subjective. Leave it just to statistics and you will never capture the spirit of a place.
"For that, you need to visit to take into account that ‘you have to be here’ feeling. Is the pub dog-friendly, for example? Can you live car-free? What are the schools and houses like? Is it multicultural and multigenerational, and can it offer a good way of life to lots of different sorts of people?
"Ten years ago, when we launched the inaugural list, London’s gravitational pull was strong, the WFH revolution had not yet reached our doorstep and high streets were stacked with chains. How times have changed — and how welcome that change is.
"This year we have discovered new best places to live from resurgent city centres in the North, rejuvenated suburbs across the country, hidden villages in the Southwest, and a commutable Scottish island.
"We hope there is something to suit everyone."
The overall Best Place to Live in the UK was given to Ilkley in West Yorkshire.
