A new list of the best places to live in the UK has placed Chester within its top 300 locations, with the city narrowly missing out on the top 200.

In a list compiled by independent sales agency, Garrington Property Finders, Chester was placed at 202 on their overall list of the 'Best places to live in 2022' - which stretches to 1372 locations around the country.

The city performed well in subcategories such as 'architectural beauty', where it finished at 200 of 1372 and the 'green' category which saw it break the top 400, sitting at 398 out of all those surveyed.

Garrington judged the average family home in Chester to cost between £350,000 and £650,000 which meant a rank of 102 out of 605 locations in this price band.

The city also ranked within the top 50 percent of locations for its natural beauty, but its quality of life rank saw it placed further down in the list at 718 out of 1372.

Northwich, also within Cheshire West of course, was listed within the top 600 at place 539. It outperformed Chester on its 'green' ranking with 158 but its 'quality of life' ranking saw it placed at 1,178th on that particular subsection of the list.

Ellesmere Port performed better than both Chester and Northwich in the latter category, narrowly breaking into the top 600 for 'quality of life' with a rank of 599. Despite this, the town's overall rank was 1097 out of 1372.

Both Northwich and Ellesmere Port were adjudged to have more reasonably priced family homes than Chester, with a guide price listed as 'less than £350,000'.
