'Huge honour' as Ellesmere Port salon owner wins top national award

The Boutique Atelier earned three national award nominations in the 2022 shortlist of the Salon Business Hairdressing Awards for the third consecutive year.

The Boutique Atelier, and its owner Richard Phillipart, were shortlisted for the Salon Business magazine 'Fashion Salon', 'Ultimate Salon' and 'Global Stylist' awards.

Richard was one of six finalists in the 'Global Stylist' category and was triumphant on the night, being named as the industry’s top stylist 2022.

He said: “With the past few years of Covid-19 lockdowns changing the hairdressing landscape and lockdown closures which totalled seven months now behind us, just being back doing what we love is enough, but this continued recognition from such a prestige industry publication is a huge honour and having my industry peers vote for my body of work this past 12 months as being industry leading takes everything to another level!"

The awards shine a spotlight on the brightest, most ambitious and creative British hairdressing businesses and stylists.

Now in its ninth year, The Salon Business Awards, presented by industry publication Salon Business magazine, is one of the most exciting and rewarding competition for British hairdressers, leading to career-defining recognition and opportunities.

The Salon Business Awards ceremony was held in London and attracted renowned names in the fashion world.

More than 300 guests came from across the globe to London's Quaglino's to see 14 salons and three individuals take home a Salon Business Award last week.

Leading names in hairdressing from across the world honoured Richard with this award for his knowledge, vision, unique style and prominent position in fashion and the wider hairdressing industry.

Pre-pandemic, Richard travelled across the world, teaching hairdressing and working on fashion shows as far a field as Canada and Dubai. With industry international travel slow to start back, Richard currently spends several days a week in London styling hair for major fashion magazines like Vogue and has a luxury client list which boasts Harrods & Chanel.

He is regularly commissioned to design the hair looks for major London Fashion Week shows such as Mulberry and continues to educate hairdressers nationwide.

As well as looking after his clients several days a week at his Ellesmere Port salon, Richard mentors several salon owners from across the UK and Ireland as part of his 'Activator' partnership with Creative Head magazine, sharing his knowledge honed over 15 years of running The Boutique Atelier and helping them to grow their businesses.

Richard strongly believes in developing his team of local hairdressers and apprentices at his Ellesmere Port salon, The Boutique Atelier on Underwood Drive, pushing them to be the best they can be and to see the amazing career opportunities available in hairdressing, that it is not just a job, but a vocation that can help you travel the world.

Countless members of Richard’s Ellesmere Port Atelier have themselves earned industry recognition, winning awards, working on red carpets and backstage at London Fashion Week as well as working across the country and even going on to open their own salons.

Richard’s client list at The Boutique Atelier is currently full and he is not taking on any new cut or colour clients, but does continue to accept new hair loss clients each month in the salon's private hair loss suite.
