CHESTER Festival Chorus are in preparation for a special concert entitled Music All Around Me, with funds set to go towards helping Chester's homeless community.

The event is set to take place at 7.30pm on Sunday, July 10 in the historic surroundings of St Werburgh's Church on Grosvenor Park Road in Chester city centre. It was originally scheduled for 2020, before Covid restrictions resulted in a heavy delay.

The informal concert will feature A Capella performances of light classical pieces including works by Edward Elgar, Thomas Tallis and Charles Villiers Stanford. Fifty per cent of the proceeds from the concert will go to Chester Aid For The Homeless.

Speaking about the hour-long concert, Andy Ashton, the Chair of Chester Festival Chorus said: "You don't have to understand anything about music to come this concert. Just switch off your phone, chill out and enjoy the amazing sound of unaccompanied voices singing in harmony.

"The concert is only an hour in duration and the pieces are all quite short and so it's the perfect introduction to classical music for anyone who is unfamiliar with the genre but equally, there is much for classical music afficionados to enjoy too.

"We are so looking forward to this concert, we've waited 2 years to get to perform it!"

The concert will be led by the choir's popular conductor Ellie Slorach. A graduate of The Royal Northern College of Music and based in Manchester, Ellie is currently the assistant conductor for the Orchestre Philharmonique de Liege and Artistic Director of Kantos Chamber Choir.

Most recently, she has worked with the BBC Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir and Northern Ballet.
