EMERGENCY teams have been called out to tackle a large fire at Delamere Forest in Cheshire this evening (Tuesday, July 19).

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service says eight fire engines have been deployed to the incident at 5.40pm.

A spokesperson for the fire service said they had received: "A 999 call from a ranger to say there was a fire in Delamere Forest was received by control operators who have mobilised eight fire engines to the scene.

Chester and District Standard:

"The fire involves 40 metres by 40 metres of ground and is deep seated."

At 7.10pm, the fire service provided this update: "Four main jets are in use and firefighters are setting up a water shuttle from nearby water. The fire is in a wooded area which is difficult to access."

The service later posted an update at 8.05pm: "Firefighters have split the incident into sections so they can deal with the fire in the deep seated moss.

"They are using portable pumps to get water to the area and feed the four hose reel jets currently in use. The crews are liaising with park rangers and police who have set up a cordon around the fire for safety."

As of 8.40pm, the fire service confirmed the fire was located near to Barnsbridge Gates Car Park, and that crews will continue to work throughout the night at the incident.
