THERE were plenty of smiles to be found at Cheshire West and Chester schools on Thursday as hundreds of students collected their GCSE and International Baccalaureate results.
Here is a round-up of the remaining schools who celebrated some top results:
- Chester International School
It was another exciting GCSE results day for learners, their families and staff at Chester International School.
GCSE courses were interrupted with national lockdowns in key years leading up to final examinations. During this time learners at the international school continued to build resilience, knowledge and skills setting them up for life.
Due to the broad and balanced curriculum on offer 74% of the cohort entered the English Baccalaureate, this is significantly higher than the national average.

Results this year at the school have shown a significant increase across all key progress indicators including in 9-5 and 9-4 English and maths in comparison to 2019 which is the last time learners sat physical examinations.
This along with the recent ‘Good’ Ofsted results shows the positive direction of travel the school is moving in.
Headteacher Katrina Brown said: "In addition to the fantastic GCSE achievements awarded today learners in Year 11 carry with them a toolkit of essential skills and character traits developed during work undertaken in their Middle Years Programme.
"We are looking forward to welcoming the majority of our learners back onto our sixth form programmes to continue with their IB education.
"We want to take this opportunity to congratulate all of our learners on their results and wish them all the success for the future.
Chester International School's Jemma Cromie and her mum.
Jemma Cromie came to CIS from South Africa. Jemma is really happy with her scores securing a series of grade 7s, 8s and 9s across her subjects.
Jemma said: "As an international student, CIS has made me feel welcomed and provided me with a multitude of friendships and knowledge that I will carry with me for a lifetime."
Chester International School's Alex Hoekstra.
Alex Hoekstra was home educated until he came along to CIS in Year 10. Alex has scored a series of grade 8s across his subjects.
Alex will be staying on at CIS for the sixth form to undertake the full Diploma Programme which will prepare him for his dream career in Computer Science.
Chair of Governors Stephen Miller is thrilled with the results and said: “Another superb set of results especially set against the background of disrupted learning that this year’s cohort have had to deal with. Today is a day for celebration and reflection on outstanding effort from learners and staff alike, supported by the entire CIS community. Well done to everyone!”
Chester International School learners will begin their Year 12 programmes on Friday, September 2.
- Helsby High
Once again there was joy and celebration at Helsby High School as Year 11 students opened their envelopes to learn of their success in their summer GCSE and vocational qualification examinations.
Despite all the challenges that they had to confront over the last two years, which included learning at home for a term during Year 10 and on-going uncertainty throughout the first half of Year 11 over whether or not the examinations would actually even take place, all the students’ resilience, positivity and sheer hard work was rewarded with richly-deserved success as they discovered their grades and made their plans for the next stage of their lives.
Particularly impressive was the way that their success was spread across all students and all subjects. Every single student in the Year 11 cohort achieved at least four GCSE qualifications, with well over 25% of all grades achieved at grade 7 or above. Over 80% of students achieved a grade 4 or above in English, with 80% in Mathematics, and 65% of all students achieved a GCSE qualification in English, Maths, Science, a Modern Foreign Language and one of the Humanities subjects, Geography or History.
Headteacher Martin Hill said: “Students’ resilience has been tested more than it ever has before over the last two and a half years. Hence this group of students deserve all the success they have achieved and we wish them all the very best for the future.”
Deputy Headteacher Dr Pritchard-Roberts, who led the year group through their summer examinations, said: “As a school we are so proud of how our students worked together and supported each other through to the achievement of these wonderful results. We now look forward to continuing to work with this fabulous group of young people in our Sixth Form.”
Amongst the many students who should feel very proud of their achievements are Emily Anderson, Laura Farmer, Alfie Hayes, Heather Salmon and Abigail Wallace, who all outstandingly achieved 8 GCSEs at Grade 9, the very highest grade available.
- Ellesmere Port Catholic High School
The school posted on social media: "Congratulations to all our Year 11 students who collected their GCSE results today, you have done fantastically well and we are really proud of all you have achieved.

- Bishops' Blue Coat Church of England High School
Year 11 students at the Bishops’ Blue Coat Church of England High School have had much to celebrate!
Bishops' Blue Coat Church of England High School students celebrate their GCSE results.
These young people have worked consistently and with determination, working hand in hand with their teachers to learn, prepare and tackle their first set of external exams head on.
Students have developed skills for examination success alongside subject-specific knowledge. Nationally, 73.2% of GCSEs were marked at grades 4/C and above this year, at Bishops’ the corresponding figure is 78%.

It is only one week since fantastic Year 13 results at the school. With 100% pass rate and 37% of grades an A* or A, learners were supported to be the best in Chester for 2022.
- Ellesmere Port Church of England College
The school tweeted: "Despite the challenges Year 11 pupils at EPC have celebrated their GCSE success today. All pupils secured their places on their next steps with many coming back to our 6th form.
"There were outstanding achievements from: Abdullah Al-Waleedi, Caitlyn Burke, Alfie Nuttall, Blazej Otfinowski, Jessica Upton! Many congratulations!"
