AN Ellesmere Port motorist has been sentenced for dangerous driving.

Peter Simkins, 31, of Girton Road, pleaded guilty at the first opportunity to a number of motoring offences, and assaulting two police officers, when he appeared at Chester Magistrates Court on Tuesday, September 13.

Prosecuting, Alan Currums told the court Simkins had been seen driving a white Renault Traffic dangerously on Telford Road, Ellesmere Port on February 28.

He was driving despite not having a licence for the car or valid insurance.

In addition, he was not wearing a seatbelt and was seen using a hand-held mobile phone while at the wheel, and had failed to stop when ordered to do so by police.

On the same day, Simkins also assaulted two police officers, Lorna Allix and Chloe Keenan.

Magistrates ordered that Simkins be banned from driving for 15 months, and he must pass an extended test before being able to obtain a driving licence.

He must carry out up to 20 days of a rehabilitation activity requirement and 140 hours unpaid work.

The magistrates took Simkins' guilty plea into account.

The charge of failing to stop when ordered to do so by police was withdrawn, as the offence was effectively incorporated into the more serious dangerous driving charge.

Simkins must also pay £120 court costs and a £95 victim surcharge.
