MARKS and Spencer has commented on the future of its Cheshire Oaks branch after the retailer announced that 25 per cent of its larger stores will be closing.

Stores, like the one on Stanney Woods Avenue, which sell clothes and homewares could soon make away for 100 new Simply Food outlets.

Closures are set to target 'lower productivity' outlets and M&S bosses aim for the store closures to be ideally completed in the next three years.

This could see the number of larger stores reduced from the current figure of 247 to around 180 by the year 2028.

Asked about the Stanney Woods Avenue location, an M&S spokesperson said the retailer had made no new announcements about store closures.

"You may have seen some reporting around our presentation to investors recently but the information that was re-shared about our stores is just about our existing long-term plan to rotate our store estate."
