THREE Ellesmere Port primary schools have officially been declared Good schools, following recent Ofsted inspections.

Rivacre Valley Primary School, Rossmore School and Parklands Community Primary and Nursery School all received visits from Ofsted inspectors in October this year.

All their inspection reports have now been published on the Ofsted website, and it's good news for all three schools.

For Rivacre Valley, inspectors said: "Pupils and children enjoy attending Rivacre Valley Primary School. There is a warm welcome for them each morning.

"Staff greet pupils, parents and carers as they arrive at school.

"Pupils walk into classrooms with smiles on their faces. They feel safe and well cared for by staff. Pupils know that if they have any worries, there is someone who will help them.

"Pupils, including children in the early years, are polite and respectful. They are proud of their school."

All aspects of the school were rated 'Good', except for early years provision, which was rated 'Outstanding'.

For Rossmore, inspectors said: "Pupils enjoy attending Rossmore School. They appreciate the welcome that they receive from staff in the morning, including the bagels.

"Pupils value the variety of clubs and other activities available to them. These include a range of residential visits. Pupils are proud to be e-cadets or members of the school parliament. They have a well-developed understanding of equality and diversity.

"Pupils feel safe in school. They learn how to keep themselves safe through the curriculum. This includes water safety, e-safety and stranger danger."

The school was previously assessed as a 'Good' school, and inspectors found this continued to be the case.

For Parklands, this was the first inspection carried out since the school became an academy in 2018.

Inspectors said: "Pupils at Parklands Community Primary and Nursery School thrive at this happy and welcoming school. Pupils, including children in early years, settle in well. They quickly make new friends.

"Leaders expect pupils to try their best and to work hard. Pupils easily live up to these expectations. They behave well in lessons and around the school.

"Pupils said that they value having the ‘buddy bench’, where they can go and find a friend to play with."

Like Rivacre Valley, the school was rated 'Good' in all areas except for early years provision, where it was rated 'Outstanding'.

Identifying where improvements can be made, inspectors said for Rivacre Valley, leaders have not ensured teachers are clear about the most important knowledge pupils should learn, in a small number of subjects. Increased efforts should also be made to teach pupils about certain aspects of the wider world, such as other cultures and religions.

For Rossmore, inspectors advised: "Leaders should ensure that teachers enable pupils to deepen their knowledge by building on previous work, so that they know and remember more over time."

For Parklands, inspectors said some younger pupils who find reading difficult do not have enough reading practice, and some pupils do not attend school regularly enough.

When Ofsted inspectors judge a school to be good, they will then visit the school about once every four years to confirm it remains good. If they find evidence the school would receive a higher or lower grade, the following inspection after that would be graded.
