THE RSPB Burton Mere Wetlands in Neston have organised events for all the family in preparation for their Big Garden Birdwatch.

Burton Mere Wetlands straddles the border between England and Wales with a mosaic of freshwater wetland habitats, mixed farmland and woodland.

The area is bursting with wildlife, hosting avocets, egrets, harriers, noisy redshanks, swallows and swifts.

Here are some of their events you can attend in 2023:

Big Farmland Bird Walk at RSPB Burton Mere Wetlands 

This exclusive dawn walk is ideal for seasoned birdwatchers to get behind the scenes to parts of the reserve which isn’t open to visitors and see some harder to find songbirds plus a range of other farmland specialists.

The event will run on Sunday, January 8. Tickets are £15 per person (£12 RSPB members) plus a small booking fee.

Big Garden Bird Walk at RSPB Burton Mere Wetlands

This short, gentle woodland walk is perfect for new birdwatchers seeking to improve their identification of common garden birds, ready for taking part in the Big Garden Birdwatch.

Learn the best practice for binocular use and get some tips and tricks from experts at the RSPB.

The event will run on Sunday, January 15. Tickets are £15 per person (£12 RSPB members) plus a small booking fee.

Get Ready for Big Garden Birdwatch at RSPB Burton Mere Wetlands

Families attending this fun hands-on activity will take home their own DIY suet feeder to attract birds into their garden ready for taking part in the Big Garden Birdwatch.

Get tips on spotting and identifying birds around the reserve’s feeders.

This event will run on Saturday, January 21. Donations are appreciated for the activity, and normal admission charges apply for non-members visiting the rest of the reserve.
