CHESTER Fire Station has warned dog owners to be careful whilst their pets are near water this afternoon (Thursday, December 29) after one pooch had to be rescued in Northwich.

Firefighters from Northwich Fire Station attended Vale Royal Locks at around 11:57am this morning, using a raft to rescue the dog, which had been fallen into the water and became trapped on a ledge near to the lock gate.

The dog, Lexi, was picked up by the crew and quickly brought back to her owners.

In a tweet, Chester Fire Station said: "Blue watch alongside @northwichfs came to the aid of this dog that got stuck on one of the lock gates at Vale Royal locks in Northwich. Luckily the dog was brought to safety by swift water crews on a raft. Crew are urging dog owners to be careful with their dogs around water."

Lexi is understood to be fit and well.
