A DRIVER was arrested and charged after several bin bags of cannabis were found in the back of a van.

The British Transport Police assisted by Merseyside Police stopped a van on the M53 motorway on Monday, January 9, after smelling a strong smell of cannabis.

When officers stopped and searched the driver and the van, they found large amounts of cannabis in black bin bags.

The driver was arrested and later charged for being concerned in the production of cannabis.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police told the Globe: “Officers travelling to Liverpool on Monday morning stopped a vehicle on the M53 which smelt strongly of cannabis.

“They searched the van and found a large amount of cannabis being transported.

"The driver was arrested at the scene in connection.”
