A CHESHIRE-BASED baby care business has donated thousands of pounds of worth of plastic-free baby wipes and eco-friendly nappies to support UK families in need.

Pura, based in Tattenhall, has donated £6,800 worth of the baby wipes and nappies – of varying sizes. Typically, that would support 42 families with three months’ worth of eco-friendly wipes and nappies.

Via it’s festive It’s Time For Giving campaign, for every one-time purchase, or new subscription order placed on the brand’s website in December, Pura pledged to donate wipes and nappies of the equivalent value, based on what The Hygiene Bank needs most.

According to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, more than one in five of the UK population are in poverty – that’s 14.5 million people. Of these, 4.3 million are children.

When people are held back by poverty, they may not have access to basic hygiene essentials, such as soap to keep clean, and many parents can’t afford to change their baby's nappy as often as is necessary.

The Hygiene Bank was founded by Lizzy Hall to tackle such hygiene poverty. The charity accepts products that are donated by local communities and partner organisations like Pura and redistributes them to those who need them.

Pura founder Guy Fennell commented: “Here at Pura we believe that every parent and child has the right to be able to access wipes and nappies and other essential hygiene needs. We were delighted to support The Hygiene Bank through our festive It’s Time For Giving campaign.”

A spokesperson for The Hygiene Bank added: "We are extremely grateful for Pura's donation of eco-friendly baby products that will go towards helping the many parents who are currently living in hygiene poverty in the UK and cannot afford to buy wipes and nappies."
