TRIBUTES have been paid to a broadcaster who was known to many across parts of North Wales and Cheshire.
Ron Jones, from Borras Park in Wrexham, died on February 4, aged 80.
Having started his career on hospital radio at Warrington General in the 1970s, Ron went on to join Marcher Sound in the 1980s. He was also a founder member of South Flintshire Radio in Buckley, Wrexham FM at the Hippodrome Theatre and his final stint on the airwaves was at Calon FM in Wrexham, before the covid pandemic.

Friend and colleague Robert Proctor said: "He did Marcher Country, and was known as the Jimmy Young of the mid morning show at Marcher.
"He was fantastic, a very knowledgeable and fabulous broadcaster.
"Ron loved to research records and his own collection was second to none.
"If there was anyone short of a track, you could have bet Ron would have it.
"He supported me at South Flintshire Radio and Wrexham FM, and he interviewed me at Marcher regarding my charity work with Leighton Hospital in Crewe."
Robert added: "He was one of the best presenters I've heard. He presented so brilliantly, you enjoyed it whether you were a country fan or not."

Paul Mewies worked with Ron as the news editor at Marcher for about 10 years. He said: "Ron was part of the original Marcher Sound team when it first went on air in 1983, and amongst a number of other shows, presented a weekly country music show.
"In those first few years, he established a loyal audience and his show was very popular.
"He was very knowledgeable about music, and was one of the most recognisable voices on Marcher Sound."
Ron leaves behind wife Sue, sons Brian and Keith and grandson Alex. A funeral will take place on Tuesday, March 7, at 2pm at Pentrebychan Crematorium, in Rhostyllen.
