A NEW Home Bargains store is set to open in Chester this weekend, with the retailer creating several new jobs.

The store on Foregate Street, which represents an investment of approximately £3 million, will officially begin trading from 8am on Saturday, April 29.

As one of the UK’s largest family-run retailers, the discount store is creating 27 new jobs in the community with the new location. In total, it will employ 29 team members, including some staff and management who will be transferring from nearby stores.

Home Bargains will also be donating £2,000 to KidsBank Chester, which provides baby essentials for families who are struggling to cope or facing a crisis. The charity promotes recycling children’s clothing, equipment, and toys to help relieve poverty in Chester and the surrounding area.

Cathy Pettingale, Founder/CEO of KidsBank, said: "We support families facing a range of challenges, including homelessness, unemployment, high living costs and domestic violence. Our mission is to alleviate the impact of childhood poverty by providing practical help as quickly as possible. This amazing donation from Home Bargains will help us and those we support enormously. To have our work recognised so generously is hugely appreciated."

The new Chester store will join two other stores in Chester and over 575 outlets across the UK. Opening approximately 50 stores a year, Home Bargains is bucking current trends in the industry.

Philip Daley, the new Chester store manager, said: "I’m really proud to be opening the new Chester store. Chester has a very special place in my heart, and I look forward to serving this community."

The 13,504 sq. ft store will offer shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food.

Philip Daley added: "The newest Chester store on Foregate Street will be a great location for us, and we’re proud to offer local people top-branded goods at exceptionally low prices."
