Saltney Town FC has been hit by numerous instances of vandalism over the last few years, which included damage to dugouts, seats in its spectator stand and advertising boards

Last month, the Leader reported that the club had been granted planning permission to erect a 3-metre high security fence around its Sandy Lane ground.

And last week, Saltney Town FC tweeted photos of the newly installed fence.

MORE NEWS:

The club said: "To cap off a truly magnificent week for the club, the fence is up. After years of needing to protect the ground and allow the club to move forward, it’s finally here.

"We can continue to progress this great club."

Saltney residents praised the club for its efforts in deterring vandals, but expressed sadness that the steps were needing to be taken.

One person said: "Well done to everyone concerned. It's just a pity that it had to be put up."

Another added: "[It's] A sad indictment on society that you have even had to do this, though."
