A NEW community book exchange is set to be introduced in Chester.

People using Vivo Care Choices’ services at Water Tower Gardens in Chester are launching a new community book exchange for local people to access books and other items.

Jason, who completed Vivo’s Work and Voluntary Enterprise (WAVE) programme and had a placement at Great Boughton Library in Chester, has inspired this new project through his love of books.

Not only will the community book exchange be a useful resource for the local community, but it will provide training and development opportunities for people like Jason who use Vivo’s services.

An event is being held at Water Tower Gardens from 11am to 3pm on Wednesday, August 30 to launch the community book exchange, with anyone welcome to attend.

The project is being supported by Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Libraries team, contributing some stock for the community book exchange and resources to signpost people to the range of services available through libraries.

Councillor Sheila Little, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, said: "This is a fantastic initiative being launched by Vivo with the support of our Libraries team.

"Jason’s love of books has helped get this project off the ground and we’re sure it’ll be a welcome addition for the local community.

"This is another great example of how the WAVE programme has had real benefits for people supported by Vivo, helping them become more independent and take part in things they enjoy.

"I’d encourage any local residents to pop along to the launch event and see what the group has to offer at Water Tower Gardens."

The launch event will be used to discuss what the local community needs and there’ll be a book exchange, games, face painting and much more.

Opening hours for the community book exchange at Water Tower Gardens will be confirmed after the launch event has taken place.
