CHESTER MP Samantha Dixon has spoken after receiving an MBE for political services to the city earlier this month.
Mrs Dixon was presented with the honour by The Princess Royal at an Investiture held at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, October 3.
Samantha served as a local authority councillor representing residents in Chester city centre for twelve years between 2011 and 2023. She was elected as the Member of Parliament for the City of Chester in December 2022.
The first female leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, holding the post from 2015 to 2019, Mrs Dixon was instrumental in several projects including delivering Storyhouse, establishing the first council-led Poverty Truth Commission in the country, and helped to bring forward the first phase of the Northgate Development which includes Chester’s popular new market hall.
The Chester MP was honoured for her public services in Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s 2022 Platinum Jubilee Honours list.
Commenting on receiving the MBE, she said: "I am deeply honoured and humbled to receive this award. Chester is truly a unique city, and it is my home. It is the honour of my life to be able to represent it first as a councillor and the Leader of the Council and now as the Member of Parliament for the City of Chester.
"I love my job and, for me, serving my constituents will always be my priority.
"It was such a special day, and I was pleased to have shared it with my family."
