THE planned season finale at Chester Races has been called off due to bad weather.
It had been planned for Saturday, October 14 for the racecourse, which had most recently hosted an Oktoberfest special, to host its final racing of the 2023 season on a packed eight-race schedule, including the £40,000 prizepot Xenon Handicap Stakes.
But heavy rainfall throughout the week has left organisers with no option but to call off the meeting in advance of the event.
A statement on the Chester Racecourse website said: "We are sorry to confirm that following an inspection of the track, racing has been abandoned due to waterlogged ground and further showers being forecast over the next 24 hours. We are all naturally disappointed and apologise for any inconvenience caused.
"guests will receive a full refund. The refund will be issued to the lead bookers bank account within 7-10 working days, we kindly ask that you remain patient during this period.
"Thank you for your support throughout the 2023 season. We look forward to welcoming you all back to Chester next year."
