CHESTER has been recommended as one of the top UK towns for Christmas shopping by readers of The Times.
The newspaper revealed the UK destinations which were most frequently commented by readers below a recent article on the country's prettiest towns at Christmas, with Chester coming out on top.
Times journalist Katie Bowman writes: "This photogenic town generated the most comments from readers, who were all in agreement that it deserved recognition for its festive flair."
The article goes on to detail some standout attractions and restaurants mentioned by Times readers for those looking to visit during the festive season.
Italian restaurants Da Noi and La Fattoria are highlighted, with the former described as "fabulous" as is Thai by Thai - which a reader calls "exceptional". Afternoon tea at the Grosvenor Hotel is also given a special mention.
There is also plenty of love for the city's "stunning" cathedral and Storyhouse.
Another reader notes the historic surrounding of the Rows and the "Tudor-style-fronted shops" helping to enhance a Christmas shopping trip.
Chester is one of seven towns and cities which were highlighted as perfect destinations for a yuletide trip, with others including: Narberth; Pembrokeshire, Winchester; Hampshire, Holt; Norfolk, Beverley; East Yorkshire and Melrose, Scottish Borders.
The full list of recommended destinations is available to view on The Times' website.
