PUPILS at a school in Ellesmere Port answered the question 'What does autumn mean to you?' as they put forward their best pictures for a photography competition.
During the October half-term, children at Little Sutton Church of England Primary set about attempting to encapsulating the season of autumn in a single photograph. Judges were captivated by the entries with a wide range of subjects including landscapes, pumpkin carvings, children playing in leaves, children dressed in fancy dress and even a tortoise preparing for hibernation.
Professional photographer Helen of Helen Jane Smiddy Photography visited the school to judge the entries. She found it a tough task and went back and forth many times before deciding on Annabella’s entry - aged 7 - as the winner. Second place went to Abigail and third to Isla. Annabella received a camera as her prize, kindly donated by Leading Schools Consultancy Limited.
The competition was the idea of Jacob Hayes, aged ten, who was voted Head Boy by his peers. During his campaign presentation, Jacob expressed a wish to expand school competitions to make them more inclusive of a range of interests and hobbies.
Jacob said: "I’m really sporty and get the chance to enter lots of tournaments and I just thought that people with other interests should get to have more events in school."
