A MAN was found dead in a river, two months after going missing from the Countess of Chester Hospital.

An inquest has been opened after the body of Brian Hughes was recovered by police from the River Dee in Chester.

Mr Hughes, who was 44 at the time of his death, had been reported missing on August 17.

He was last seen leaving the Countess of Chester Hospital that morning and was believed to have headed in the direction of the city centre.

Police issued several appeals over the following weeks.

However, his body was found in the River Dee on October 15.

DNA tests carried out during the post-mortem confirmed the body to be that of Mr Hughes, from Connah’s Quay.

Senior coroner Jacqueline Devonish opened an inquest into his death at Cheshire Coroner’s Court this morning (November 22).

A case review will take place on January 21, 2024, ahead of the full inquest on March 8.
