A CHESTER man who threatened his victim while in possession of a potato peeler has been jailed for six months.

Brian Chadd, of no fixed abode, failed to appear for his trial on December 5, where he faced charges of threatening his victim in Chester on July 14, and possessing a bladed article in public.

Chadd, 53, had previously pleaded guilty to criminal damage of a police cell, while he had admitted breaking his bail conditions by entering Foregate Street at an earlier date.

At Chester Magistrates Court on December 5, the trial proceeded in Chadd's absence and he was found guilty on both contested charges, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

He was also handed a restraining order not to enter Foregate Street News and Convenience Store for 12 months.

Chadd appeared at Chester Magistrates Court on Saturday, December 9, to be sentenced.

The court heard Chadd had a 'horrendous record of threatening violence' and this was his fourth offence of carrying a weapon and/or bladed article in public.

He was jailed for a total of 26 weeks.

He must also pay court costs of £640 and a £154 victim surcharge. The potato peeler was to be forfeited.
