A CHESTER school has been announced as the winner of a national mental maths competition.
Grosvenor Park C of E Academy competed against schools from across the UK as part of the 10ticks Mental Maths competition.
Students answered an outstanding 58,043 questions across the fortnight-long challenge, securing a first-place prize of £500.
Organisers of the competition, which is sponsored by asset management company Liontrust, said the response and participation of schools throughout the competition had be "truly gratifying". Schools were placed on a top 10 leaderboard, with the first, second and third-ranked institutions receiving a prize.
Managing Director of 10ticks, Ian Fisher said: "I am delighted to witness the high level of engagement demonstrated in the Liontrust Mental Maths Competition, as numerous schools across the UK dedicatedly honed their mental arithmetic skills. The commitment displayed by participants reflects the significance of fostering mathematical proficiency, and we are proud to contribute to this collective pursuit of academic excellence."
Liontrust Chief Marketing Officer, Simon Hildrey said: "It is wonderful to see how committed the schools and their pupils were to the 10ticks Mental Maths competition. Maths and financial literacy are indispensable everyday skills and key to learn before the age of 18. We send our congratulations to all the pupils who took part."
