A NEW book chronicling life at a former paper mill in Ellesmere Port has been published.
Did you or your family work for the Bowaters Organisation at Netherpool?
The Ellesmere Port Local & Family History Society has just published its latest book telling the story of the 80 years of the Bowaters Organisation's presence at Ellesmere Port.
The Paper Mill, Fibre Containers Factory, Multi Wall Sack Factory, Flex-Pipe Factory and Sports & Social Club are all documented and lavishly illustrated within this interesting book using many previously unseen photographs and using material gathered from many sources.
This fascinating new book is currently on sale for £15 in Whitby Village at Steve the Barber and Rainbow Balloons, also at T.E. Hughes (Great Sutton).
Copies will also be available in the New Year at local libraries and the National Waterways Museum.
Ellesmere Port Local & Family History Society
This is the Ellesmere Port Local & Family History Society's 10th Local History publication since it was established thirteen years ago by former Chairman (now Honorary President) Celia Webber.
The Society publishes a monthly newsletter and hosts talks by invited speakers on the third Tuesday of each month at the National Waterways Museum, Ellesmere Port - everyone is welcome to attend and posters advertising these meetings are regularly displayed in local libraries and on the EPLFHS Facebook page.
Many family, school and work photographs and newspaper cuttings are often thrown away as 'junk' by younger relatives unaware of their significance in illustrating the rich history of our past.
However, members of the Society are continually working with residents, former workers of the area, churches, shops, businesses and industry to gather memories, photographs and newspaper cuttings to create an Archive of the Town's Social and Local History which is then used in the fascinating publications which have been published to date.
Anyone willing to bring their photos and ephemera to share with the Society or needs any help with their Family History is welcome to come along and join our smaller group for a cup of tea/coffee in Ellesmere Port Library on Wednesday mornings (10am - 12.30pm).
