MORE than £5,000 has been raised by Chester FC fans who walked to Warrington, having been joined by one young fan who recently recovered from a broken leg!

The Blacon Seals completed their 23 mile walk to the club’s away game at Warrington Town FC on New Year’s Day in support of Maddie and Ava, two special girls and their families.

The two young children are battling serious illness.

Two year-old Ava from Chester and two year-old Maddie from Warrington are facing significant health challenges and the Blues fans wanted to support both girls and their families and raising funds towards treatment.

Ava is confronting a glioblastoma tumour.

Through surgeries, radiotherapy and setbacks, Ava’s resilience and infectious smile inspire everyone around her.

Ava’s family is aiming to raise funds for an experimental immunotherapy treatment, a beacon of hope they cannot afford alone.

Funds are also being raised for Maddie who is battling a stage 4 Wilms tumour.

Despite enduring chemotherapy, surgeries and facing complications Maddie’s spirit shines.

As of Tuesday the group’s efforts have raised more than £5,000.

Setting off from the Leap 76 Stadium at 4.30am the group walked through Helsby with a stop at the Railway Pub for breakfast, Frodsham, Preston Brook and Daresbury before arriving at Warrington Town’s Cantilever Park shortly before 2pm.

Despite the Blues’ 1-0 defeat, the real winners were those who took part in the walk including one young fan who has recently recovered from serious injury.

A spokesman for the Blacon Seals said: “Joining Seals on the walk were several other fans including 10 year old Blues fanatic Amy Littler who has recently recovered from a broken leg. Amy completed the full 23 miles with her dad. A fantastic and selfless effort.

“Supporters of both clubs generously donated to a bucket collection at the match and Warrington Town kindly offered to give all proceeds from sales of the matchday programme to the fund which will make a huge difference to Maddie, Ava and their families.

“The Blacon Seals would like to thank Chester FC and Warrington Town for their support as well as the Howell and Butler families for their support on the day as well as Thom Finnerty from the Railway Pub in Helsby.”
