A PRE-SCHOOL in a Chester village is looking ahead to a brighter future after volunteers stepped forward to save it from closure.

Before Christmas a plea went out for people to join the Dodleston Pre-School committee with a new chairperson and at least two trustees to keep it going after more than 40 years.

Dodleston Pre-School is a charity-run pre-school and therefore relies on a full committee to meet the charity commission's requirements. The committee comprises of a chair, treasurer, secretary and trustees.

The existing chair was stepping down and we needed to find more committee members otherwise the pre-school couldn't continue to run.

The previous committee sent out a plea to the wider Dodleston community, encouraging people to volunteer to keep the pre-school open, and happily, they have not been disappointed.

A spokesperson for the pre-school said: “The new committee is enthusiastic, brings a wealth of experience, and they're dedicated to supporting the staff and children to make the pre-school a positive place to be.

“The pre-school is all about outdoor play. There's no such thing as bad weather, just unsuitable clothing, so you'll find our purple ladies outside in rain, snow, wind and sunshine.”

They added: “As Early Years' experts, we know how children of this age learn and develop and we tailor our approach to suit. With the right clothes on, the children can experience the changing seasons for themselves rather than learning about it indoors.”

“Play is critical to their development, so that's what we do all day, every day. This fosters a can-do attitude, inspires confidence and builds a desire to do more and learn more.

You can find the pre-school  at Dodleston Village Hall every day except Thursdays, 9am-3.15pm.

It accepts children from their second birthday right up until they leave for school at age 4, and accepts English and Welsh Government funding.

The pre-school is currently trying to find a new nursery manager on a temporary basis to cover 12 months maternity leave.
