AN EDUCATIONAL event to mark Tinnitus Awareness Week (February 5 to February 11) has been organised by dedicated sensory loss charity, DSN.

The event is open to people who have tinnitus, or those who are supporting people with the hearing condition. Tinnitus is the sensation of hearing a sound when there is no external source for that sound. The sound is unique to the person experiencing it and it can present as ringing, buzzing, hissing, whistling or other noises.

The event is a unique opportunity to connect with others facing similar challenges. DSN will also provide insight and discuss support options for those with the condition via their friendly and knowledgeable team.

DSN – the Deafness Support Network – is the amalgamation of the Chester and North Wales Society for the Deaf and the Warrington and District Society for Deaf People. DSN was previously known as the Cheshire Society for the Deaf.

Kerry Clarke, Community Liaison Officer at DSN, emphasises the importance of getting support for the condition: “Tinnitus can be a challenging and isolating experience. Our event at Tarporley Memorial Hospital follows a very successful monthly support group in Macclesfield.

“The event is not just about raising awareness but also about fostering a community of support, here in West Cheshire, like we have in East Cheshire. We aim to provide valuable information and a space where people can share their experiences and learn from each other. Everyone deserves to live a life unhindered by sensory loss, and we're here to help make that a reality.”

The event will take place on Tuesday, 6th February, from 2.30pm to 4pm at Tarporley Memorial Hospital, on Park Rd, in Tarporley. There will be complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits and the event is free of charge.
