A CULINARY innovator from Ellesmere Port could be about to become a national sensation with their product set to feature in a new Channel 4 show.
Lucy Linford, creator of Desert Island Dumplings, has grown her business from peddling dumplings on the streets of Liverpool to running a successful café in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. But, the business could soon go national as part of Aldi's Next Big Thing.
Lucy’s journey has required determination and a love for vegan cuisine, and her unique flavours, including the likes of ‘cheezburger’ and the ‘lasagna dumpling’, have set Desert Island Dumplings apart.
Lucy said: “Growing up in Ellesmere Port instilled in me the value of community and hard work. It's this foundation that has carried me through the challenges of building a business.”
Now, the Ellesmere Port native will be hoping she can impress one of the country’s biggest supermarkets as part of Aldi’s Next Big Thing which begins tonight at 8pm on Channel 4.
The show, which is returning for its second series, will see six food suppliers compete against each other each week to win the opportunity to sell their product in Aldi stores, with judges Anit Rani, Chris Bavin and Aldi’s Managing Director of Buying, Julie Ashfield on hand to put the products through their paces.
Desert Island Dumpling will also be competing at The Golden Chopstick Awards at the end of April. The awards celebrate the best in East and South East Asian cuisine across the UK.
