CHESHIRE pubs saved from the brink of closure are celebrating after winning a prestigious national accolade.
Cheshire Cat Pubs and Bars Ltd won Best Drinks Act at the Publican Awards 2023, the equivalent to the industry’s ‘Oscars’.
All seven of their pubs had also been shortlisted for Best Employer, Best Food Act and Best Operations Team.
The company was up against the best pubs across the country.
Owners Tim Bird and Mary McLoughlin are overjoyed to see their labour of love recognised.
The couple run The Church Inn, Bulls Head and Roebuck Inn in Mobberley plus four other establishments.
All of their hostelries were either closed or on the verge of shutting when the couple came along and rescued them.
The challenge of restoring beautiful pubs that many would have considered to be lost causes, is their passion.
All their general managers, head chefs and support team attended the event.
Proud Tim said: “We are over the moon to win this huge award against very tough opposition.
“The win is a true reflection of what we hold most dear in our pub business, great local cask ale, wonderful wines and a unique selection of spirits and special ‘no and low’ drinks to ensure our guest experience is second to none.
“Every member of the Cheshire Cat team has played a massive part in winning this accolade and it is the entire team’s award.
“I must mention our drinks suppliers too, as they work tirelessly to support our amazing drinks act, well done to all of them.”
Tim and Mary received the award from comedian Tom Allen at a ceremony in London attended by more than 1,500 guests.
The Publican Awards judging process remains the most comprehensive, rigorous and reputable in the industry, ensuring that the awards remain the most respected in the pub trade.
Ed Bedington, editor of The Morning Advertiser, which organises the awards, said: “We are delighted to celebrate our winners, shining a light on the incredible businesses showcasing the best in our sector, despite the challenges we are all facing.
“All of the companies we have seen over the past few weeks and months have been outstanding and judges have had a tough job to pick winners. “These awards are the pinnacle of the industry and even being shortlisted is an amazing achievement so a huge well done to all finalists and winners."
