FIRE crews from Cheshire and Shropshire have been called out to a crash on the A41.

Eye witnesses have said that the main road is currently closed in both directions between Grindley Brook and Malpas because of the serious road traffic collision.

The Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) has confirmed that three of its engines have gone to support colleagues from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS).

The highways monitoring agency Inrix has confirmed that the A41 between Grindley Brook (Whitchurch) is closed in both directions because of an earlier RTC.

It said: "A41 both ways closed, queueing traffic due to accident from The Horse and Jockey Pub (Grindley Brook, Whitchurch) to the Bell o th Hill turn off (Bell o th Hill, Whitchurch). Ongoing since earlier this afternoon."

Eyewitnesses close to the scene of the accident, between the Horse and Jockey pub and Bell o' th' Hill, said the accident was serious and that emergency services were at the scene.

They added that cars were having to turn back at Grindley Brook roundabout close to the A41 and A49 but some were trying to get through.
