Millions of TV viewers tuned in to watch young performers at a Chester-based choir wowing Britain's Got Talent judges on Sunday (May 12).

The Amasing children's choir appeared on the long-running ITV hit show, thanks to a surprise invitation organised by choir director Rachael Borman.

Rachael told BGT judges Cowell and Bruno Tonioli she had nominated the Amasing children because "they are amazing", adding: "We are an arts organisation and charity, we work with thousands of kids, supporting mental health through the arts, and I just thought that they deserve something really special and really exciting.

"And all the children here absolutely love Britain's Got Talent, so it's going to be a massive surprise for them."

The two judges visited the choir's end-of-term party where, unbeknown to the celebrating children, they hid in a giant present box.

After a countdown, the pair emerged from the box to screams of delight from the children, who were then even more excited when they were told by Simon they would be heading to the Britain's Got Talent arena to perform one of their songs.

Amasing, which has welcomed thousands of children from the Chester, Flintshire and Wrexham areas, has already performed in such venues as Chester FC's Deva Stadium, The Floral Pavilion in New Brighton, The William Aston Hall in Wrexham, and recently the Amasing Adult Choir sang as part of The National Lottery's Big Night of Musicals, shown on BBC One.

But for the youngsters, this was their biggest audience yet, as they took to the stage and sang one of their own songs, titled 'Be Who You Wanna Be', which included an energetic mid-song dance display.

The performance had all four BGT judges on their feet, with presenters Ant and Dec enthusiastically encouraging the choir from the wing of the stage.

In reaction, judge Alesha Dixon said: "A burst of energy and colour and joy. All of you did a great job, I enjoyed looking at every single one of your faces, you were having the time of your lives, well done!"

Fellow judge Amanda Holden added: "Just so much energy, I loved it, when you all went nuts in the middle, I just think it was just beautifully organised chaos – fantastic."

Bruno said: "Spontaneous, natural, real, each and everyone of you gave everything you had.

"And yes, be what you want to be."

Simon added: "What I love about this choir is that every single one of these kids loves being in this and for me it's the best feeling in the world when you see kids like this owning the stage doing whatever you want, because that's what it's all about."

When it came to the crunch decision, all four judges gave their 'yes' verdict, to the joy of the children on stage.
